Genealogy – Report the problem so that the index gets fixed.
I am working on a tree for a lady in Texas and came across a 1880 census that didn’t make sense (no pun intended).
First of all the translation for the guys name was all wrong
so I put in an update saying that the handwritten original page showed the persons name as “Leocadio”.
I thought I was done but then I noticed that the man was listed as
“Son-in-law” but the person before him was only 18 years old.
Hmm… was this index missing something?
I went back into the original page and noticed that the highlighted
people were only half of the people who lived in the dwelling (#2) [See a screen print of the original page at bottom of this post]
The transcriber of this index had missed half of the people who lived
there in 1880.
I then typed up all the information that should have been included
and posted it on the “Report a problem” link under the image of the page.
Here is what they had; followed by my own typing.

So if you see a problem with the index, take the time to report it so that others who run into the index page won’t have to wonder what is going on. It took time to type up the info but it was worth it. You see you get KARMA points for your good deeds and as we all know Santa is watching so do the right thing even if it takes time off of your gaming schedule.
I hope this has helped you with your genealogy research and you will look closer at the indexes and the original to make sure that they match and if they don’t match then you know what to do.
Oh, one more thing. In my looking at the guys name on the ladies tree I noticed that he was married to “Refugio Cano”. I checked other trees to see what named they had for her, and they too had “Cano”. You see I had noticed that on the 1880 census he was listed as Son-in-law so in my search of the original I should be looking for some Head of Household named “Cano”. On their index for marriage she is listed as “Carro” but in all other records the last name is “Cano”.
Thank You
