Someone asked me how to create a GEDCOM file off of Ancestry dot com.
They wanted to export their tree to some other platform and did not want to type everything over again.
I told them to create a GEDCOM file and move the data that way.
That is when they asked “How”.
The first thing I did, was to point them to web posts about GEDCOM.
There are many articles, as you can see above, about GEDCOM’s, here is just one: https://lisalouisecooke.com/2017/03/11/gedcom-file/
Getting back to the “How To” create a GEDCOM.
From your Ancestry dot com family tree click on “tree name” at top left of screen.
Then click on “Tree Settings”.
Then click on “Export tree” in the Manage your tree, at lower right of screen.
A GEDCOM file will be created on your computer. It will take time to create depending on the size of your family tree. Once the GEDCOM file is created you can then up load it to other web sites.
Remember that the GEDCOM file is just the data not the photos or screen prints. Those items will have to be copied and moved individually.
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thank You.
