News from Ludington, Michigan
I was looking for a family tree item when a news item from Columbus Ohio caught my eye. I noticed that Helen Keller and Thomas A. Edison are mentioned in the item. I also noticed the item from Eaton Rapids because I used to live in Eaton Rapids about 20 years ago.
There are stories about fires and the loss to the family;
“…his barn and its entire contents…” “$3,000”
“…their house… with all… contents…” “$2,400”
I went to a web site to find out what those costs would be in today’s dollars.
1916 to 2015
Annual Inflation: 3.21%
Total Inflation: 2179.73%
$3,000 = $68,391.84
$2,400 = $54,713.47

Old newspaper can be very informative even if the items are not about your family tree relatives.
Thank You.
