Why is an Indiana death reported in a Maine newspaper?

It is hard to say why some items get picked up by newspapers while others don’t.

In this case it was probably a good filler; a small item with a twist.

The fact that Edward was not nominated for the post brought on an illness which ended his life.

In the four (4) page newspaper for Mar 24, 1893 there was little news about Biddeford most of the news comes from other parts of the country and from abroad.

So always look in other places for information about your family. Maybe the story (birth, marriage anniversary and death) has been picked up by some other newspaper, and even in some other state.
